hi, and welcome to another opening scene specail
for this scene, i am going to look at "Gladiator"
for the first 29 seconds, we are shown the hero watching a robin
the robin is sapose to resemble winter (cold weather)
this also shows that the hero likes natural things as he prefers to watch a robin fly off than to get ready for war.
when he walks off, it cuts to a long shot reveiling the scene he is in.
the words "Germania" appear, also showing to the viewer where the scene is.
it starts to pan right with solders on horse back. once the the solders on horses have their back t0 the camera, the camera keeps panning right but starts to lift showing that there are loads more solders waiting there.
then it cuts the a worns view on the horses galoping past. the camera shows no movement at all
then it cuts to the same horses galoping past, but the camers zooms into a group of solders on the hill, the camera also wobles as it zooms.
then, it cuts to a medium shot of the group. the camera keeps zooming on to an actor who is dressed differently compared to the others. his cloths show that he is royality.
then it cuts to the hero walking uo a hill towards the solders.
as he walks past, the solders plant their sheilds and kneel to our hero.
the camera follows the heor as if the viewers are walking behind him.
then we get a close up of the solders faces.
then it cuts to a close up to the hero face as he walks past the solders showing the solders kneeling down.
then it cuts again to a 'perspective shot' of the hero as he look at the solders as he passes them.
one thing i would take from this opening scene is, the 'silence before the storm' feel to this opening, ill make all my actors appear nervous but leave my hero calm

Hi Guys,
Sorry, not in today as I said. Work for today is:
Watch opening sequence of 'Creep', Mr Lawton has the DVD, or use Youtube. Make a blog comment on how suspense is created and NICKABLE characteristics of camera use and editing. Follow this up with a gander at:

Make blog notes on what you might use from this too, it's a summary of Alfred Hitchcock's main horror/thriller tactic tictacs. If you have never heard of him, shame on you. See you tomorrow.
